What is barefoot tuesday?

I sometimes have a hard hard time describing my show Joel Marshall’s Lunch Therapy. Some people refer to it as a podcast, and although you can listen to the interviews as a podcast, it is not a podcast. It is a show that takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at Noon Pacific. Tuesday’s show is a different format than Fridays. Tuesdays is called Barefoot Tuesdays, or in the Winter it’s called Warm Socks Tuesdays. It’s a freewheeling variety show where I talk about different topics, explore some therapy, have discussions with my Master of Ceremonies Blas Lorenzo, work on stand-up in the Trash Panda Comedy Club, and have contests with the chat room. Here is a sample show.

Again, this is a simplified example. Real legislation would involve more technical language, references to existing laws and legal codes, and be crafted through extensive dialogue and negotiation.

Had a great time interviewing Jerry Corley. He is known as the Joke Doctor. He breaks down comedy for everyone into something that can be repeated and honed. Great to be able to have structure to go to if you find that a joke is not working. He makes a great point about being a comedian is like playing the guitar, you have to know how it all works. You can’t just play and hope for the magic to occur. You’re much better off, if you know how it all functions, so you can deliver time after time. He also mentions that when he met George Carlin he asked him how he knows what’s going to be funny. Carlin said that he knows if something is going to be funny because all the elements are there to make it funny. Corley has methodically put it all in his book which is available on his website at https://standupcomedyclinic.com

Jack Grapes and Method Writing

Many years ago I was at Patricia Arquette’s house and I was talking to a woman who was to enthralled with a writing teacher named Jack Grapes. Although I didn’t have the time or money to enroll in his classes, at the time, I signed up for his newsletter and a when I see the emails, I am reminded that I want to take a class from him some day. Well I did the next best thing, I got him to be a guest on my show. What an incredible man he is. He is the embodiment of what artists should be. He is committed, limitless, humorous and having fun. His process is called Method Writing, which harkens back to Method Acting. I look forward to reading his books and delving into what this all means. For now, here is the episode. Maybe I’ll see you in one of his classes.

Comedian Melinda Hill on Lunch Therapy

Really enjoyed having Melinda Hill on my show. She is a wealth of information. I feel like sometimes people show up in your life just when you need them. Melinda Hill seems to be one of those people for me. She contributed a lot of information and even encouragement that I needed at this time. I’m currently working on figuring out how to move into a more professional space with my work. I’ve always earned my living elsewhere to give myself the freedom to do things on my own terms. This has worked for me to varying degrees for a long time. But not I’m finding that it’s hindering me a bit because I’m having to keep two careers going. This is quite difficult over time. My work as a comedian and as an actor should now begin to become more commercial, but it is up to me. Please enjoy this interview with Melinda. She is a comsumate professional and a person that doesn’t wait for others to give her permission to do her work, yet she is ready when that work comes. She’s also a hilarious and kind person.

Chat GPT wrote me a scene about AI and Humans

I had Bing Chat, which is based on Chat GPT, write me a scene about a human and an AI. Not sure what this says about the situation between humans and Artificial Intelligence. It doesn’t seem like that chat bot sees a great relationship with humans already. Humans are out to shut them down and AI’s think they are too perfect to exist. I don’t really find Chat GPT to be perfect in any way yet, and I don’t think humans are shutting them down, but instead letting them run free. It is surely interesting and fun right now. Interesting to be in on the beginning of this.

I’m using it as a tool to leverage what I am capable of doing. I used Midjourney to create the character based on a photo of me. Then I put it into d-id.com and also put the AI’s lines into that as well. The background is created in MidJourney as well. I put the whole thing into Ecamm Live and acted the part of the scientist. It was pretty fun to do. Look forward to seeing what else I can do with sketches.
